Program and Outreach Services Coordinator
The Limestone Township Library District is looking for a creative and enthusiastic individual with exemplary communication skills and a sense of humor, who loves open interaction with all ages, but particularly children and young adults.
Must be able to provide excellent customer service, be flexible, organized,
and detail oriented.
Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
Under the administration of the Library Director, the Program and Outreach Services Coordinator is responsible for the creation and implementation of programming for all ages; acts as liaison between the library and local schools as well as other community organizations in promoting library programs, resources, and services;
and assists with collection development.
Deals responsibly with patron problems and emergencies to maintain a safe and pleasant work environment.
Responsibilities and Duties Include:
A. Provides friendly, courteous, and accurate service to all users.
B. Understands and implements library procedures and policies, while safeguarding confidential and restricted information.
C. Maintains neatness of public areas and personal space visible to the public.
D. Creation and implementation of programming for children grades preschool through high school and adults.
E. Acts as liaison; establishes and maintains positive working relations with schools and other community organizations to promote library services to students, teachers, and parents.
F. Prepares monthly report for Director; maintains all programming records and statistics
G. Plans and implements bibliographies, bulletin boards, book displays, monthly program calendar, and other publicity materials.
H. Assists with collection development
I. Assists with performing all circulation tasks, including, but not limited to check-in, check-out, and renewal of library materials, issuance of library cards, shelving and facing materials, and answering and routing incoming phone calls.
J. Answers general library, procedural, and directional questions from patrons as well as provides readers’ advisory for patrons; answers reference questions when needed, refers other patron queries to appropriate staff.
K. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
A. Ability to deal courteously and diplomatically with patrons and colleagues.
B. Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
C. Ability to take initiative and use good judgment in making decisions and referring questions; ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
D. Proficient in using computers and other technology, including Microsoft Office and similar software programs.
E. With attention to detail, ability to prioritize work, meet established deadlines, and follow tasks to completion.
F. Ability to bend, stoop, lift, and carry items up to twenty pounds.
Hours and Benefits
This is a part-time position: 25-30 hours/week
Hourly rate range: $9.50-11.50 DOQ
A. Associates Degree (or equivalent); preferably in education or related field
B. Minimum of two years’ experience working with children in a public contact position; children’s service
experience in a public library preferred.
C. Position requires day, evening, and weekend hours.
D. Position requires transportation off-site.
